(married name unknown), She was born 1829 in Ont, and died August 24, 1911 in Delhi, Norfolk, Ont.
Notes for James Whitside:
B: In all records and census forms, James has claimed that he
was born In Ireland!. Brother of General Samuel Whitside USA Army
whose father was reported to be a Consul General for the USA.
This is not true.
James operated a general store and was a Postmaster of Delhi for
over 40 years. He was also a grain merchant and was reported to
have lost a ship at sea.
From the British Canadian Newspaper, Pg 12, Oct. 23, 1901, Col
3 of Delhi News, "Mr. James Whitside shipped from here on
Friday last for London, England, a car of buckwheat, containing
thirteen hundred bushels, the largest car of grain that ever left
the Delhi Station
He is reported in the 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881, 1861, 1871 and
1881 CENSUS.
CEN: 1851 Census he is shown as a clerk, 21 yrs of age, living
with William L. Sovereen who was a storekeeper. We believe that
when his father remarried that he came to Delhi and was taken
in as an apprentice to William Sovereen in the general store business
in 1844.

22) & Supt. of Sunday Schools for a number of yrs. Also pg
167, shows picture of home and article from Delhi News Record
of Jan 6 1855. States came to Delhi 1844 at 13 yrs age, apprentice
to Frederick Sovereen, (probably it was William Sovereen, see
Obit, British. Canadian, Simcoe, Sept 21, 1910). After 5 yrs (1857)
purchased store stock and went in to business himself, bought
Eagles store stock across the road from Sovereen store. Then sold
to Crysler Brothers and engaged in business in Jarvis? Returned
in 1877 & built present store site, age 46, was postmaster
for 28 yrs. Justice of the Peace. Town council as Reeve, supporter
of Baptist church. Was Postmaster from 1860-1910 pg 139 Tweedsmuir.

INDENTURE: RLW has in his possession a copy of an Indenture between
James Whitside and Frederick H. Lamb of Hamilton Ont. dated April
9, 1885. James carrying on business in the Village of Fredericksburg
as a general storekeeper has contracted large debts to Lamb and
has been unable to pay so has assigned all his estates to Lamb.
Lamb is given the right to sell everything to repay the debt?
As he never lost the store, it can be assumed he did this to gain
time to repay this debt with Lamb holding the Indenture as security?
LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION: Copy held by RLW. Dated the 6th of
Feb. 1911, Letters of Administration. were granted to Wilbur Henry
Whitside as James Whitside had died in testate on or about 13
Sept, 1910. He owned a home and his widow Hannah had renounced
all right and title to Letter of Admin: His son Wilbur to administer
James estate and pay all debts.
LETTERS OF ADMINISTRATION: Copy held by RLW. This states above
letter was given but as Wilbur died on the 20th of June 1916 and
left part un administered, a new Letter of Administration was
given to James's Daughters. Minnie Alice Duncombe and Nellie Josephine
Heath. Other Daughters. Carrie H. Freeman & Maude B. Hodgson
renounced their rights. This is dated 25 Nov 1932. Eugene Heath
and his wife Nellie ended up with possession of the house and
the store as well.
